What will you do as an EHS NAM Director at Sealed Air?

The North America Director, Environment, Health, Safety & Sustainability (EHS&S) will lead the EHS&S strategy and execution across more than 48 manufacturing facilities throughout North America.

This role will partner closely with Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, Human Resources, and senior leadership to strengthen EHS&S performance, improve consistency across the manufacturing network, and ensure that critical operational risks are effectively identified, prioritized, and controlled.

The Director will lead through experienced Regional EHS Managers and site-level EHS professionals, balancing strategic leadership with strong operational and technical credibility.

The role requires significant visibility across manufacturing locations and approximately 60% travel throughout North America.

Why do we need you?

  • Lead the development and execution of the North America EHS&S strategy across a complex, multi-site manufacturing network.

  • Strengthen and standardize EHS management systems, policies, governance, audit processes, corrective-action systems, and regional deployment of global EHS standards.

  • Lead the identification and reduction of critical manufacturing risks, including machine safety, guarding, hazardous-energy control / LOTO, electrical safety, contractor safety, serious-injury and fatality risks, and Management of Change.

  • Partner with Operations, Engineering, and Maintenance leaders to integrate EHS requirements into plant operations, new equipment, capital projects, maintenance strategies, and operational decision-making.

  • Lead and influence capital planning and EHS investment prioritization, including development of risk-based business cases for significant and multimillion-dollar projects.

  • Drive environmental compliance and sustainability performance across the region, including regulatory compliance, waste, emissions, water, environmental management systems, and broader sustainability initiatives.

  • Establish and monitor meaningful EHS metrics, KPIs, leading indicators, audit findings, incident trends, and corrective actions to identify systemic risks and improve organizational performance.

  • Lead, coach, and develop Regional EHS Managers and site-level EHS teams while creating accountability and consistency across locations with different levels of maturity.

  • Influence Plant Managers, Operations leaders, Engineering, HR, and senior executives without always relying on direct authority.

  • Lead significant incident investigations, root-cause analysis, CAPA, and systemic risk-reduction initiatives.

  • Support EHS integration for acquisitions, organizational changes, new operations, and major manufacturing projects.

  • Build a strong EHS culture where Operations owns risk and EHS serves as a strategic business partner rather than a stand-alone compliance function.

What do you need to succeed?

  • Significant progressive EHS leadership experience within manufacturing environments.

  • Strong experience leading EHS across multiple manufacturing facilities, preferably at regional or North America scale.

  • Demonstrated technical depth in machine safety, guarding, LOTO / hazardous energy, equipment risk, electrical safety, operational risk, and Management of Change.

  • Demonstrated experience influencing or managing significant capital investments and CAPEX prioritization, including development of business cases and risk-based investment decisions.

  • Strong knowledge of U.S. EHS regulatory requirements, including OSHA and EPA requirements, with additional familiarity with applicable DOT and NFPA standards.

  • Strong environmental-management experience and demonstrated exposure to sustainability initiatives.

  • Experience implementing and governing enterprise EHS management systems, audits, standards, corrective-action processes, and performance metrics.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead experienced EHS professionals and influence senior Operations and Plant leaders with strong and diverse leadership styles.

  • Strong change-management capability, including experience driving adoption of new systems, standards, and ways of working across multiple sites.

  • Strong executive communication skills and the ability to translate technical EHS risk into operational, financial, and business implications.

  • Data-driven decision-making capability while maintaining the judgment and flexibility required to operate effectively in complex manufacturing environments where complete data may not always be available.

  • Ability to travel approximately 60% throughout North America.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Engineering, Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or a related technical discipline. Advanced degree and relevant professional certifications are preferred.
