Summary
  • This position assists the flow of patient care to make certain needs are met in a timely fashion. Communicates with other members of the specialty team to facilitate the care of the patient and the goals of the specialty team.
  • This position works under the supervision of the Director and the operating surgeon and is employed by Mosaic Health System.
Duties
  • Assumes responsibility for setting up and passing instruments, labeling medications, holding retractors, assisting the surgeon, and assists with circulating duties as necessary. Applies principles of asepsis and infection control skillfully
  • Applies knowledge of surgical anatomy, physiology and operative technique relative to operative procedures wherein the STFA assists.
  • Provides exposure through appropriate use of instruments, retractors, suctioning and sponging techniques.
  • Handles tissue as directed by the surgeon during the operative procedure.
  • Assists with positioning, prepping, draping of the patient, and with transfer of the patient to and from the operating room.
  • Applies surgical dressings.
Qualifications
  • Successful completion of an approved surgical technologist education program Or Successful completion of accredited LPN program, and
    Successful completion of accredited course in surgical assisting or first assisting is required.
  • CST - Certified Surgical Tech is required. BLS certification required. LPN - Licensed Practical Nurse - State Licensure is required. CSFA - Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) Successful obtainment of CSFA through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA). CSFA to be verified through Mosaic credentialing. Covered on Mosaic insurance since CSFA can close cases on their own is required.
  • Six months operating room procedural experience Or Applicable OR clinical rotation experience is required.
