Summary
  • This position performs and functions as a member of the OB team, passes instruments to the surgeon, assists the surgeon during surgical procedures, assists in vaginal delivery, stocks supplies, assists nursery and OB nurses as needed and performs vital signs when needed.
  • This position works under the supervision of the Director-OB\Pediatrics and is employed by Mosaic Health System.
Duties
  • Assumes responsibility for setting up and passing instruments, holding retractors, or assists the surgeon, and assists with duties as necessary. Observes and maintains aseptic technique at all times.
  • Assists in preparing the OB operating rooms for procedures, obtaining needed equipment and supplies. Maintains working knowledge of assembly and function of surgical instrumentation and equipment.
  • Completes required sponge, needle and instrument counts following/policy/procedure. Controls the location of contaminated instruments and supplies to prevent the spread of infection by properly utilizing the case cart system.
  • Handles and cares for surgical specimens according to policy/procedure.
  • Prepares the operating/birthing room for the next delivery by utilizing proper cleaning techniques, returning equipment to designated are and restocking.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent. Completion of surgical technologist education program preferred, but not required.
  • BLS required.
  • OB technologist experience preferred. Clinical rotation in surgical technologist program acceptable as experience.
