Summary
  • This position processes tissue specimens for examination by the pathologists, maintain the areas used for tissue examinations, perform special stains, maintain an accurate log of the specimens, maintain files of blocks and tissue slides, monitor the supplies and reagents as necessary and Rotates call. Gives excellent customer service.
  • This position works under the supervision of the Team Leader and department lead and is employed by Mosaic Health System.
Duties
  • Embed, section, make slides, stain, coverslip, and label tissues for examination by the pathologists.
  • Inventory, order, and stock supplies and clean pathology grossing areas, frozen section rooms, histology area and maintain all equipment. Maintains policy and procedures are current for the department.
  • Perform special stains as directed by the pathologists.
  • Take telephone calls and prepare specimens for send out. Perform computer operations necessary to enter patient information, order tests and charge for procedures.
  • Maintain files of tissue blocks and slides.
Qualifications
  • High School graduate or GED equivalent plus two years of full-time experience in a Histopathology Laboratory under the supervision of a certified pathologist; or Associate degree plus one year experience as above or Bachelors’ degree with completion of a Histology Technician or Histotechnology program.
  • HT (ASCP) and HTL - Histology Technologist preffered within 180 days of hire.
  • Experience preferred. Training orientation will be up to eight weeks.
