Summary
  • This position performs all the duties of the Registered/Certified Sterile Processing Technologist. Serves as the liaison between the Sterile Processing department and the Operating room to assure smooth, uninterrupted daily instrument support. Has a strong understanding of sterile processing and instrument management. Facilitates continuous communication between the OR and SPD. All requests/needs from the OR are funneled through the coordinator to the appropriate technician in SPD. Follows up as needed in a timely manner. Keeps track of instrument flow and processing needs throughout the day. Is proactive in coordinating the instrument turnaround needs and communicates this effectively with the surgical team. Assists the Instrument Specialist and leads in routing instrumentation for repairs and routine maintenance. Anticipates the needs of the surgical team and rounds the OR rooms to ensure appropriate instrumentation is available. Responds to OR/physician needs and helps develop permanent solutions with OR and SPD for process improvement. This position works under the supervision of the Manager-OR/SPD and is employed by Mosaic Life Care.
Duties
  • Successfully performs all duties of the Registered Sterile Processing Technician as required to meet customer needs or workload requirements.
  • Serves as liaison for OR and SPD teams concerning control of the instrument inventory
  • Keeps track of case flow during the shift and notifies SPD Manager or lead in advance of additional needs; follows up appropriately
  • Assists with the planning and coordination of instrument turnarounds and communicates with the surgical team regarding information that may affect surgery start time
  • Troubleshoots problems related to instrumentation and sterile processing
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • All required education is a minimum requirement. Higher levels of education are acceptable. H.S. Diploma is required.
  • CRCST - Certified Registered Central Service Technician within 90 days is required. Continued employment will be contingent upon maintaining registration.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience is preferred. Must be able to perform the duties of this position within a specified time set by the Manager.
