Position Title Assistant Softball Coach
Job Description
Missouri Western State University invites applications for the position of the Assistant Softball Coach. The Assistant Softball Coach is responsible for assisting the Head Softball Coach with all aspects of the women’s softball sports program and monitors the development and general wellbeing of student athletes.

Located in St. Joseph, Missouri, just 45 minutes north of Kansas City, Missouri Western is an NCAA Division II institution, which successfully competes in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) in 16 sports and Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) in 1 sport.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  • Assist with coaching and teaching during team practices and competition.
  • Plan and manage practice sessions.
  • Assist with scouting and recruiting for the team.
  • Analyze games and develop strategies to improve team performance.
  • Monitor the academic performance of softball players.
  • Monitor the mental health of athletes.
  • Coordinate the team travel arrangements and logistics.
  • Perform administrative duties as assigned.
  • Provide guidance and training to other staff members as required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of the fundamentals of the sport.
  • Knowledge of the specific skills required for each position.
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Ability to coach student athletes.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs and other general office equipment.
  • Organized thinker with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to effectively organize and prioritize work as well as concentrate on multiple tasks simultaneously.
Required Qualifications
  • This position requires a Master’s Degree in Sport and Fitness Management or a related field.
  • Must have one to three years of experience in collegiate softball coaching and/or playing.
  • Prior training on CPR/First Aid is required.
  • A valid driver’s license is required.

Physical Demands
  • Generally works in an office or an indoor or outdoor sports environment.
  • May be exposed to the loud noise of an audience at games.
  • May be exposed to inclement weather conditions and extreme temperatures.
  • Position requires moderate physical activity, and the ability to exert up to 75 pounds of force occasionally.
  • Requires the ability to climb, balance, kneel, stoop, and reach.
  • Required to use close vision and be able to focus.
  • Regularly required to talk and hear; frequently required to sit, stand, and bend at the knee and waist, and walk.
  • Must be able to have repetitive wrist, hand and/or finger movement to type and work on computer.
  • Must have finger dexterity and hand-eye coordination to work on computer, telephone, and related office equipment.
