| Job Description | Student Accounts at Missouri Western State University (MoWest) is seeking applications for the position of Accountant I as MoWest looks to improve its business processes for its new strategic plan. The Accountant will be responsible for the management and reporting of financial information. Their duties include performing bookkeeping, examining and analyzing student accounts, billing and collecting tuition and fees, and ensuring compliance with GASB financial reporting and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). Student Accounts is part of the Finance and Administration division of MoWest; and works closely with the offices of Budget, Financial Aid and Registrar. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: - Assigned a primary responsibility for one or more of the following activities: cash management, all accounts receivable payments, and/or debt collections and management.
- Serves as a main point of contact for students, families, and departments needing assistance with inquiries regarding student receivables.
- Ensure the collections process complies with all regulatory and legal requirements.
- Prepare and examine financial records, ensuring records are accurate and complete.
- Perform day-to-day transactions while ensuring established policies and procedures are followed.
- Monitor daily postings to the general ledger ensuring proper mapping of revenue and expense codes.
- Prepare and audit third party billings and track payments for accuracy.
- Produce analysis for internal and external audit activities.
- Perform allocations and journal entries.
- Produce reports with accuracy and completeness.
- Provides administrative support and performs other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: - Knowledge of and ability to adhere to GAAP.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Excel, Word and similar software.
- Communication, as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisors, the general public, etc., is sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
