Position Title Communications Specialist
Job Description
Missouri Western State University (MWSU) is searching for a seasoned Communications Specialist to assist in brand development, strategic communications and serve as lead writer for the institution.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Research, interview, and write content lifting up the MWSU brand.
  • Create, implement and refine a communications content calendar with timelines and objectives.
  • Develop and maintain familiarity with and fluency in communicating about University goals and priorities.
  • In cooperation with the President and the VP Enrollment Management and Marketing, the President’s cabinet, relevant faculty and students research, write, review and edit publications, op-eds, and other corporate communications.
  • Excellent time management, able to prioritize and manage multiple projects successfully under tight timelines, be flexible, able to shift priorities when necessary to meet deadlines.
  • Review internal and external information sources to ensure the messaging accurately reflects policies and strategic direction.
  • Work with Marketing/Communication and Enrollment Management teams to ensure timely and cost-effective design, approvals, printing, mailing and online publication.
  • Circulate content for review and approvals.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to thrive in a professional, fast-paced, and team-oriented work environment, while comfortable working independently as needed.
  • Ability to blend technical writing with a casual, professional, conversational tone, and adapt writing style to a target audience.
  • Ability to manage several writing projects simultaneously and meet daily deadlines.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Marketing, Communications, Advertising, Technical Writing, or another related field.
  • Previous experience, minimum of two-years, providing published articles, freelance work or other writing examples.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree
Physical Demands
  • General office conditions. Exposed to moderate noise levels.
  • Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
  • Required to use close vision and be able to focus.
  • Regularly required to talk and hear; frequently required to sit, stand, and bend at the knee and waist, and walk.
  • Must be able to have repetitive wrist, hand and/or finger movement to type and work on computer.
  • Must have finger dexterity and hand-eye coordination to work on computer, telephone, and related office equipment.
  • Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function.

Some travel, nights and/or weekends may be required.

M-F 8:00am – 4:30pm
