Job Description | The Financial Aid and Military/Veteran Services Coordinator position shares responsibility for overseeing the University’s Military and Veteran Services (VA) educational benefits programs while administering federal, state, and institutional financial aid programs. The coordinator performs various complex administrative tasks related to reviewing and processing financial aid. This position assesses VA student benefit certifications and scholarships, provides counseling and advises students of opportunities, review, research, and resolve discrepancies, and utilizes various software programs to process applications and files. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Director, Financial Aid.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES: - Serves as one of MWSU’s VA School Certifying Official (SCO)
- Responsible for DOD, ED, and VA database management, including but not limited to generating and preparing reports for course enrollment and withdrawal tracking, grades and credit hours, graduation details, program changes, and account reconciliation.
- Regularly monitor VA regulation changes and implements adjustments as needed. Will assist in annual catalog submission to the VA for program approval and staying abreast of any new programs MWSU has developed.
- Secondary contact for VA compliance reviews. Will work closely and assist with the auditor and Director of Veteran Services to provide necessary documentation as requested.
- Maintain a thorough knowledge of VA, Federal Student Aid, State aid programs, and institutional regulations, policies, and procedures. Works strategically to ensure ongoing compliance.
- Utilizes various software solutions to analyze and determine federal student aid eligibility and institutional awards for applicants, process applications and corrections, document tracking, verification, and notifications.
- Conducts financial aid and veteran’s benefits workshops (on and off campus).
- Counsels and advises students concerning VA and financial aid opportunities, processes, and strategies for various benefit programs. Educates students in identifying various sources of assistance to finance their education, including requirements and regulations.
- Creates, sends, and responds to correspondence relating to financial aid, veteran’s benefits, and scholarship program processes. Develops marketing materials to enhance awareness.
- Maintains and reviews student files and requests necessary documents to complete records pertaining to eligibility, disbursement, and reconciliation.
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of Financial Aid, Director of Military and Veteran Services, Vice President for Finance and Administration, and/or the Vice President of Student Affairs and Dean of Students.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: - Annual VA training is necessary to maintain School Certifying Official standing
- Proficient use of Microsoft Office Suite and/or Google Workspace

Physical Demands | - Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work.
