The Principal Planner, Inventory Control is a strategic role responsible for planning and managing inventory across multiple business areas, including finished goods, poultry products, retail channels, and warehousing/shipping supplies.
This position ensures optimal inventory levels to support customer demand, minimize risk, and maintain operational efficiency. Acting as a key link between supply chain functions, commercial teams, and logistics partners, the Principal Planner drives inventory optimization, and process standardization to enable scalability and cost-effectiveness.
This role leverages advanced planning tools, data analytics, and cross-functional collaboration to balance supply and demand, mitigate risks, and maintain compliance with organizational and regulatory standards. By managing complex inventory requirements and implementing best practices, the Principal Planner enables efficient operations and superior customer service while supporting Boehringer Ingelheim’s business continuity and growth objectives.

Duties & Responsibilities

Inventory Planning & Optimization
-Develop and maintain inventory plans for finished goods, poultry products, retail channel items, and warehouse supplies.
-Monitor inventory levels and adjust plans to prevent stockouts or excess inventory.
-Utilize advanced planning tools and ERP systems (SAP) for accurate forecasting and replenishment.
-Track and analyze warehouse space and capacity at the distribution center level to optimize inventory allocation and storage efficiency.

Cross-Functional Collaboration
-Partner with Demand Planning, Supply Chain, Customer Care, and Commercial teams to align inventory strategies with business objectives.
-Coordinate with 3PL providers and transportation teams to ensure timely product availability.

Risk Mitigation & Compliance
-Identify potential inventory risks and implement contingency plans.
-Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and internal SOPs for inventory management.
-Cross-trains and serves as a backup for both Inventory Control peers to ensure continuity of routine and critical operations.
-Completes special projects and assists other employees as needed.

Data Analysis & Reporting
-Analyze inventory performance metrics and provide actionable insights.
-Develop dashboards and reports to support decision-making and continuous improvement.

Process Improvement
-Standardize inventory planning processes across multiple product categories.
-Drive initiatives to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and support scalability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or related field. 3-5 years of experience in inventory planning or supply chain operations.
  • APICS CPIM or CSCP certification preferred.
  • This position requires strategic thinking, analytical expertise, and strong organizational skills to manage complex inventory requirements.
  • Effective communication and collaboration are essential for working across functions and with external partners.
  • The role demands adaptability, problem-solving capabilities, and proficiency in planning systems and data analysis tools to drive continuous improvement and operational excellence.
