The Director, Head of EHS – AH ensures development, implementation, and execution of EHS Business Unit (BU) network and site strategies in alignment with business and GFE functional priorities. This role will develop BU-specific EHS strategy for all AH sites globally and contribute to global EHS strategy development. The position holder has end-to-end accountability to develop, execute and implement the strategy, priorities, results, systems, processes, and targets for respective EHS Units within AH (including all Global Supply and Global Innovation sites worldwide). Responsibilities include translation of global strategies into global, regional and local roadmaps and targets, to steer roadmap execution, and to lead the respective network.
The Director, Head of EHS – AH is accountable for governance to safeguard uninterrupted service delivery (e.g. supply), risk management, business continuity and compliance of the respective EHS units. The incumbent ensures a close link between business EHS units and global EHS as well as local EHS units, alignment both cross-functional and cross-country. The position holder will be the primary representative of the function to GFE AH and responsible for managing the business partner relationship with AH Sites.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Steers and influences the development of global EHS strategies by representing the BU on the global EHS leadership team
- Translates AH Business strategic and operational insights into global EHS business strategy and support development of EHS global functional strategy
- Shares and addresses strategic development and functional needs to GFE AH.
- Ensures functional escalation and prioritization process efficiency
- Leads and guides execution of strategies within the AH network
- Leads network of local EHS organizations to deliver services and projects to all AH sites and global AH organizations according to the BU, legal, regulatory and functional requirements
- Ensures alignment across the network of sites to improve efficiency and optimize use of resources while delivering continuous improvement
- Consolidates the budget requirements of EHS for AH to support the GFE AH management team.
- Coordinates EHS employees across all sites of AH
- Reviews and challenges aggregated budget proposals
- Sets targets for EHS Management
- Responsible for final approval of EHS AH budgets
- Defines team organization, jobs and responsibilities, setting and steering objectives, coaching and developing employees, performance appraisal and is financially accountable for independent budgets
- Drives talent management by strengthening job enrichment and empowerment values
- Provides governance, leadership and subject matter support for EHS related tasks for Boehringer products, sites, systems, and processes.
- Provides transparency of risks from non-compliances
- Ensures supply and delivery of environmental actions
- Master's Degree (e.g. MBA, MA or MSc)/ Diploma degree with major focus on Pharmaceutics and / or Chemistry and / or Engineering and / or Environmental Studies
- Minimum five (5) years of leadership experience is preferred
- Minimum ten (10) years practical experience in EHS or related services, preferably in positions of increasing responsibility and complexity as well international exposure
- Language skills: Fluency in English is required. Fluency in German is desirable
- Leadership experience: leading leaders, visionary leadership competencies and passionate team player (also in virtual environment)
- International experience: International exposure in daily business (greater 50%)
- Multi-cultural sensitivity, manage talented professionals from diverse geographies and cultures
