Position Summary:

To be responsible for controlling manufacturing location and distribution center activities to achieve company profit and growth objectives primarily through controlling product quality, quantities, and costs. This is to be done in accordance with all company policies and procedures and all federal, state, and local statutes.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assure all food products meet food safety standards and specifications of all jurisdictional entitles of Ventura Foods and its customers, i.e., FDA, city and county health departments
  • Manage and control assets to achieve and improve cost objectives while meeting or exceeding customer's expectations. The major cost areas being labor, oil, ingredients, and plant overhead expenses. Maintain facilities and grounds in good repair and consistent with high standards
  • Manage the St. Joesph location safety and health programs to meet OSHA and Ventura Foods’ standards with emphasis on reducing and eliminating employee injuries and worker's compensation claims
  • Manage and control facility equipment and processes to meet all environmental regulations of the federal, state and local governments including EPA, ADEM and NPDES. Manage to meet or exceed acceptable scores/ratings on all internal and external audits
  • Ensure that Ventura Foods’ HR policies are administered fairly and in accordance with company benefits and policies and this includes hiring, promotion and termination of employees. Maintain and encourage employee participation in new and creative ideas for cost control, new products and process enhancements to aid in the longevity of Ventura Foods as a company
  • Prepare, implement, and manage capital and operating budgets timely and effectively
  • Manage to attain service levels of 99% case fill and 96% order fill ( preventative maintenance, foods and materials locator system, SIS programs, and work order systems)
  • Work with Sales and R&D to obtain and control projects that develop into production requirements for ongoing business. Eliminating low volume, low margin accounts to achieve higher efficiencies, less scrap and increase capacity
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Travel may be required

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Industrial Management, Food Science or equivalent experience, is required.
  • 7+ years of experience in food manufacturing is required.
  • Prior experience working in a union-free environment highly. preferred.
  • Demonstrated progressive leadership, with developing talent and team building skills.
  • Ability to lead and manage change at all levels in the plant, skilled at handling employee relations and maintain good employee morale.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • High level of knowledge and skills relating to plant sanitation, GMPs, food manufacturing equipment and processes primarily related to oil products
  • High level of business savvy and ability to deal with both daily facility problems and the highest levels of management (internal and external).
  • Proficient in MS Office.
  • Good working knowledge of product formulas, costing, and experience in bringing R&D endeavors to fruition.

Physical Demands:
Regularly requires intermittent sitting, standing, walking, climbing, squatting, kneeling, pushing, and pulling. Physical strength and dexterity sufficient to perform the required task(s). Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds or more with assistance. Additional demands may be required.

Work Environment:
In addition to normal business hours, work schedules may include after hours and weekends as needed. May work outside and in adverse temperatures which include extreme hot, cold, and humidity. May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and vibration. Must be willing and able to wear personal protective equipment as required by established Company Safety standards. May require work in confined and dark spaces, and at heights in excess of 18 feet for prolonged periods of time.
