Summit Truck Bodies, a division of Summit Truck Equipment in Wathena, KS is looking for a Manufacturing Design Specialist to use product, organizational, and customer knowledge to influence customers and assist them in applying our products to their needs. The Manufacturing Design Specialist will provide input and participate in the marketing, purchase planning, and technical development of products. They will also serve as link between outside sales force and internal systems including engineering and manufacturing.

This position is 100% onsite at our manufacturing location in Wathena KS.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develops and maintains system to be used for quoting products to sales force including pricing.
  • Develops and maintains system to communicate design and drafting needs to engineers and drafters to meet customer orders.
  • Develops and maintains system to be used for issuing work orders to the manufacturing plant to meet customer orders.
  • Works with Sales, Engineering and Manufacturing to develop order delivery dates.
  • Understands the product line such that option conflicts are avoided.
  • Understands the product’s work environment and provides feedback to engineers and drafters for use in design and evaluation.
  • Provides technical feedback to sales and/or customer relating to use, operation and maintenance of equipment.
  • Understands financial aspects of the product including cost and dealer price.
  • Works to meet profit and sales goals of the company.
  • Communicates openly and constructively with all levels of staff and customers.
  • Has good communication skills including correct grammar.
  • Has strong organizational skills and is able to work periodically with minimal supervision.
  • Occasional overtime and odd hours are required with travel less than 5%.
  • Documents actions by completing production and quality forms.
  • Maintains a clean and safe work area, maintains and wears all required personal protective safety equipment.
  • Participates in all continuous improvement programs by offering suggestions and exhibiting initiative in areas within direct control.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

  • Requires prolonged sitting, some bending, stooping, and stretching.
  • Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator, copier machine and other office equipment.
  • Requires eyesight correctable to 20/20 to read numbers, reports, and computer terminals.
  • Requires hearing within normal range for telephone use.
  • Occasional high stress work may require dealing with customers/clients.
  • Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds. Requires dexterity and data entry skills.
  • Requires working occasionally in areas that are not ventilated or air-conditioned.
  • Requires working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must understand vague and implicit instructions and react favorably in all work situations.
  • Must be mentally adaptable and flexible in dealing with a variety of people.
  • Must be able to analyze many variables and choose the most effective course of action for the organization at any given point in time.
  • Emotional stability and personal maturity are important attributes in this position.
  • Must handle novel and diverse work problems on a daily basis.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

  • Associates degree or equivalent.
  • Must have basic knowledge and understanding of AutoCAD, cost estimating, steel fabrication, truck manufacturing and hydraulic and electrical (DC) systems.
  • Superior customer service skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Must have excellent computer skills.
  • Must also have an in-depth knowledge of spreadsheets such as excel and Google docs.
  • Ability to successfully pass a General Abilities Assessment and Post-offer background check, physical and drug screening
