The STEP (Start Temporary, End Permanent) program is a 12-week contract-based program that offers the perks of traveling without the travel.

Where in Mosaic will I work?

Surgical Technologist will be in the Surgical Services Department.

Who is eligible to participate in this program?

Surgical Technologist with at least two years of experience are eligible. Former caregivers of Mosaic must have not worked for Mosaic for at least six months to be eligible for the STEP program. Current caregivers are not eligible to participate except those currently in a PRN position who commit to working full-time hours for at least 12 weeks.

Summary
  • This position performs and functions as a member of the surgical team. Passes instruments to the surgeon, assists the surgeon and/or holds retractors during surgical procedures.
  • This position works under the supervision of the Director-OR\\SPD and OR Clinical Specialist and is employed by Mosaic Health System.
Duties
  • Assumes responsibility for setting up and passing instruments, labeling medications, holding retractors, assisting the surgeon, and assists with circulating duties as necessary. Applies and maintains principles of asepsis and infection control skillfully.
  • Assists in preparing the operating room for procedure, obtaining needed equipment and supplies. Maintains working knowledge of assembly and function of surgical instrumentation and equipment. Prepares the operating room for the next procedure by utilizing proper cleaning techniques and returning equipment to designated area.
  • Completes required sponge, needle and instrument counts following policy/procedure. Anticipates the needs of equipment and instruments by the surgeon during an operation utilizing physician preference cards. Researches information of surgical procedure as needed.
  • Handles and cares for surgical specimens according to policy/procedure.
  • Assists with positioning, prepping, draping of the patient, and with transfer of the patient to and from the operating room. Applies surgical dressings.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent. Completion of surgical technologist education program preferred.
  • BLS required.
  • Minimum six months surgical technologist experience. Clinical rotation in surgical technologist program acceptable as experience.
