Summary
  • This position is responsible for the health careers pipeline for the 19-county area from exposure to health careers to management of the AHEC Scholars program. Developing and maintaining relationships is a key priority. These relationships range from high school teachers/counselors, health professions programs, health professionals/providers, community partners, Mosaic and MAHEC staff, board members and most importantly, students ranging from high school to health professions. This position is responsible to fulfill appropriate state and federal-funded objectives and targets, currently the ACES (AHEC Career Enhancement Scholars) and AHEC Scholars program. These programs are designed to better prepare health professionals to serve in rural and underserved communities. All programs require considerable coordination of programming, often evening and weekends, participation tracking, and monitoring of student progression from high school into health professions programs. This position coordinates job shadowing for students in the medical center and at Mosaic Life Care clinics, ensuring compliance with appropriate standards and requirements.

Duties
  • Responsible for students involved in AHEC structured programming (ACES) during high school and college, which includes selection of students, individual career planning with each student, workshop coordination and facilitation, follow-up with students/parents/counselors, and participation monitoring/tracking.
  • Responsible for identification of appropriate students for the federally branded AHEC Scholars program. Has primary responsibility for onboarding students and tracking their progress through the 160-hour didactic and experiential curriculum during this two-year program. Will be responsible to coordinate and facilitate workshops and experiential activities within the community and region for cohorts of students. Responsible for meeting federal targets for programming, monitoring progress, and tracking of students.
  • Development and facilitation of pipeline workshops during the academic year and summers in St. Joseph and at regional hospitals and communities.
  • Develops relationships with regional high school counselors and health, math and science teachers and provides resources regarding health careers. Develops and maintains relationships with university and college health professions programs to assist with the identification of appropriate students for the AHEC Scholars program. Develops and maintains relationships with community and regional partners for facilitation of the experiential activities for AHEC Scholars.
  • Coordinates job shadowing experiences at Mosaic Life Care, assuring compliance with the standards for confidentiality and influenza immunizations.
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree required. Science/health related educational background; or experience in teaching, counseling or community-based education programs preferred.
  • Driver's License valid and in state required.
  • 3 years experience in health-related activities preferred. Experience with non-profit boards and a small business practice preferred.
