- A Pathology assistant (PA) is a highly trained, certified allied health professional who is qualified by academic and practical training to provide services in anatomic pathology under the supervision of a licensed, board-certified anatomic pathologist. PAs perform various tasks, including gross examination and dissection of surgical specimens, and preparing tissue for testing. PAs play a crucial role in providing accurate and timely processing of pathological specimens, contributing to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the laboratory.
- This position is employed by Mosaic Health System.
- Peform complete dissection, gross description, selection and submission of tissue for microscopic examiniation and special studies such as flow cytometry and/or immunohistochemical staining.
- Interacts with the pathologists and carrying out their duties under the direction of the Pathologist. Maintaining high ethical standards and integirty in performance of their assigned duties.
- Photograph gross and microscopic specimens, help prepare educational conferences and provide training to pathology personnel, including pathology residents and medical students.
- Works as liaison to other departments and laboratories to ensure quality healthcare.

- Associate's Degree Biological, Chemical or a related Laboratory science, including medical laboratory technology, obtained from an accredited institution. Education includes at least 60 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses OR 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses, OR 24 semester hours of science courses that includes 6 semester hours of chemistry, 6 semester hours of biology, and 12 semester hours of chemistry, biology or medical laboratory technology in any combination is required. Bachelor's Degree 4-Year Bachelor of Science degree (i.e. chemistry, biology, biochemistry, medical laboratory science) having the required science hours required by CLIA to perform high complexity testing is required.
- Related experience to inlcude grossing small biopsies and complex surgical cases within 1 year is preferred as well as experience cutting frozen sections.
- PA (ASCP) upon hire is preferred. Meeting Grandfathered certification requirements prior to 2010 by the American Society of Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP BOC) upon hire is preferred.
