Job Description | The Missouri Western State University Library has a position open for a Assistant Director, Head of Technical Services. The Assistant Director reports to the Library Director and assists the Library Director in their absence. The Assistant Director manages the operations and staff of the Technical Services area of the Library.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES: - Oversees the collection acquisition and the management of the library electronic resources and licenses.
- Properly and effectively supports, through hiring, training, evaluating, assisting, coaching, and delegating, the operational responsibilities and the staff of the department.
- Serves as decision-maker in the Library Director’s absence.
- Serves as point-of-contact, develop procedures, and provide training for library staff on the Integrated Library System (FOLIO).
- Serves as Site Coordinator for MOBIUS consortium Intergrated Library System (FOLIO)
- Ensures that the electronic and physical library collections are accessible through the proper representation of available materials within multiple customizable integrated and non-integrated iterations of the library catalog.
- Analyzes usage and make any necessary changes (additions or removals) to the collections.
- Tracks and reports collection statistics to various parties, including university administration and accrediting bodies.
- Optimizes the functionality of Integrated Library System software Folio and related library computer systems for all library staff and patrons.
- Handles library content and service vendor correspondence and relationships in a professional and timely manner.
- Provides a variety of library services, including research assistance, computer assistance, circulation assistance, informational assistance, building management, and outreach activities, to a diverse population including students, staff, and faculty of the university, community patrons, reciprocal agreement patrons, and prospective students.
- Troubleshoots library e-resource access problems.
- Performs other duties of a similar nature or level as assigned
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: - Knowledge of library record standards such as MARC.
- Knowledge of common library vendor systems such as OCLC and FOLIO.
- Knowledge of web content management software and standards such as HTML.
- Ability to manage team projects and to work independently.
- Strong numerical analysis skills and the ability to make financial and usage forecasts.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office programs and other general office equipment.
- Organized thinker with exceptional attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to effectively organize and prioritize work as well as concentrate on multiple tasks simultaneously .
