Credit & Collections Specialist

Hillyard, Inc. is currently seeking a Credit & Collections Specialist to join our Finance team in St. Joseph, MO.

Are you someone who enjoys building customer relationships, solving payment issues, and helping maintain healthy customer accounts?

We're looking for a customer-focused professional who can balance strong communication skills with sound financial judgment. As a Credit & Collections Specialist, you'll work directly with customers and internal teams to manage accounts, resolve outstanding balances, and deliver an outstanding customer experience.

What You'll Do

  • Manage a portfolio of customer accounts and oversee collection activities for outstanding invoices.
  • Build positive relationships with customers while resolving payment issues professionally and effectively.
  • Contact customers regarding past-due balances and negotiate payment solutions when appropriate.
  • Review and monitor aging reports to prioritize collection efforts.
  • Maintain accurate account notes and collection documentation within company systems.
  • Collaborate with Sales, Customer Service, and other internal departments to resolve account discrepancies and improve customer satisfaction.
  • Research and resolve billing questions, payment discrepancies, and customer concerns.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts within the Credit & Collections department.

What We're Looking For

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Two or more years of experience in Credit & Collections, Accounts Receivable, Customer Service, or a related field.
  • Strong customer service and relationship-building skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Strong negotiation and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and web-based applications.
  • SAP experience is preferred but not required.
