| JOB TITLE: Auto Mechanic DEPARTMENT: Public Works and Transportation DIVISION Street Maintenance SALARY: $45,227.00/YR $21.74375/HR CLOSING DATE: Until filled Job Summary/Scope Repairs heavy and medium duty equipment, including motor graders, wheel loaders, excavators, and Class 1-8 trucks: specialty equipment, including street sweepers, slurry seal trucks, Vacuum sewer basin cleaners, and paint striping machines, and all other motorized equipment for the department. Assists in removing, repairing, replacing, fabricating, and installing parts on two cycle and small engine and to internal combustion gasoline and diesel engines for various applications. Ability to fabricate tools and equipment and weld. Assist other mechanics in the installation of transmissions, rear ends. Preforms light electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic repairs. Performs preventive maintenance on vehicles and equipment. Performs repairs, inspections and replacement of tires. No supervisory or budgetary responsibilities. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Material and Equipment Directly Used Operates a variety of equipment, including hand tools, used in the maintenance of trucks and equipment, tire changer machine. Also operates street vehicles and equipment when making repairs. There may be times when use of personal vehicle may be required. Working Environment/Physical Requirements Work is performed under a variety of conditions ranging from extreme heat to extreme cold. Must be able to stand for long periods of time. Also requires such physical activities as climbing, stooping, kneeling and crawling. Must be able to operate equipment with dexterity. Work involves routine lifting of objects weighing as much as 30 pounds. Occasionally lift objects weighing as much as 75 pounds or assist in lifting objects weighing in excess of 75 pounds. Some overnight or day travel may be required for business purposes. Vacation and other leave scheduling shall be requested of and approved by the appropriate supervisor. Employee Behavior and Conduct City employees shall conduct themselves in a professional manner and shall exhibit and extend such professional conduct appropriate for the circumstances to those with whom they come into contact both internally and externally during the performance of their duties. Examples of professional conduct include, but are not limited to, being communicative, informative, fair, honest, and respectful. Education High school diploma or equivalent required or must be able to obtain within 6 months. One to three years’ experience in a related field preferred. All applicants must pass a drug screening and criminal background check prior to employment.
