Job Summary/Scope:

Responsible for the operation of two belt filter presses, bio solids dryer and vacuum conveyance system. Coordinates with the Operations Manager on compliance with fertilizer/soil conditioner program. The bio-solids system is a highly technical and complicated set of equipment that is unique in complexity to the process. Limited supervisory responsibility. No budgetary responsibility.

Supervisory Responsibility:

Bio Solids Operators will assist in the developing of subordinates by coaching, training, guiding, and mentoring.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Inspects equipment to ensure safe and correct operation.
  • Troubleshoots a variety of mechanical issues and takes corrective action to keep equipment operational.Performs lubing and greasing.
  • Operates fork lift and track loader for dryer pellet inventory management purposes.
  • Maintains and reviews paper and electronic bio solids records.
  • Identifies and resolves complex process issues using large data sets and trends.
  • Performs maintenance of equipment instrumentation.
  • Assembles data for completion of annual bio solids report.
  • Conducts on-the-job orientation and training of new operators.
  • Collects samples for laboratory analysis following proper chain of custody procedures.
  • Conducts field analysis using moisture balance and SGN scale.
  • Calculates polymer dosage for belt presses.
  • Maintains utility water filter systems.
  • Cleans equipment and buildings.
  • Assists with wet side operational duties.
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Must obtain Missouri “C” level Wastewater Treatment License within 1 year of hiring.
  • Two years of machine operating experience preferred.
  • Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Skills in effective communications.
  • Skills in record keeping and maintenance of operational logs.
  • Knowledge of basic electricity, mechanical pumps, hydraulics and wastewater treatment operational procedures.
  • Knowledge of laboratory sampling and testing.
  • Ability to analyze large amounts of data.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Skills in Mathematics and problem solving.

Material and Equipment Directly Used:

Including but not limited to hand tools, safety equipment, power tools, scissor lift, track loader and fork lift. There may be times when use of personal vehicle may be required.

Working Environment/Physical Requirements:

Work is performed under a variety of conditions, including indoor work with a controlled environment, indoor work under extreme heat and outside tasks performed under a variety of extreme conditions such as cold, heat, windy and wet. Exposed to hazards such as electrical shock, dust, noise, vibration and chemicals. Must be able to stand for long periods. Requires period of bending, climbing, kneeling, crawling and other physical activities. Routinely lifts objects weighing up to thirty pounds. Occasionally lift objects weighing as much as sixty pounds or assist in lifting objects weighing in excess of 100 pounds. Some overnight or day travel may be required for business purposes. Vacation and other leave scheduling shall be requested of and approved by the appropriate supervisor.

Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
All applicants must pass a drug screening and criminal background check prior to employment.
