POSITION TITLE: Signal Repair Technician Electrician

Job Summary/ Scope
Maintenance, repair and installation of traffic signals, controllers, and support equipment. Maintains emergency weather station. No supervisory or budgetary responsibilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • MAINTAINS solid state controllers and electromechanical traffic controllers, auxiliary and suspension equipment.
  • INSTALLS and MODIFIES traffic control equipment. IDENTFIES failures and INITIATES corrective action.
  • TROUBLESHOOTS and REPAIRS field and bench repairable equipment and circuitry.
  • REPAIRS field damaged signal equipment.
  • CHECKS and REPLACES signal lamps as needed.
  • INSTALLS and MAINTAINS loop detectors and school crossings, including all associated electronic components.
  • PERFORMS preventative maintenance of controller and support equipment, cleaning of signal lenses and cabinets, and field appearance maintenance.
  • KEEPS maintenance and timing records.
  • CARRIES a pager and will be on-call 24 hours a day for 1 week, to respond to Emergency calls after normal working hours. This normally occurs every Third week.
  • MAINTAINS weather station and flood control equipment.
  • MAINTAINS regular and reliable attendance.
  • WORKS with live electricity daily.
  • INSTALL, REPAIR, REPLACE, and MAINTAIN wiring for the parking garage.
  • TRIM low hanging or broken tree limbs for sight-distance concerns and during severe weather events.
  • INSTALL and MAINTAIN camera detectors for video detection
  • LOCATE signal loops and other wiring for Mo One Call locate requests.
  • OPERATES dump truck with snowplow as required of winter emergencies.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Required (Essential) Duties and Responsibilities
  • KNOWLEDGE of electronics and electric circuitry and wiring.
  • KNOWLEDGE of solid-state control and switching equipment.
  • ABILITY to read and understands schematic and wiring diagrams.
  • SKILLS in the use of common hand and power tools as well as electronic test equipment.
  • BASIC computer skills required; experience with Microsoft Office products preferred.
  • VALID Class A Commercial Driver’s License with Tanker endorsement or be able to obtain one within 90 days from date of employment.
  • REQUIRED to be on-call and/or carry a pager and respond to emergencies as needed.
  • ABILITY to utilize a multimeter.
  • ABILITY to work with live electricity while up to 30’ off ground.
Materials and Equipment Directly Used
Uses a variety of equipment including hand tools, power tools such as concrete saw and chainsaw, electric meters and computerized test equipment. Operates a personal computer. There may be times when use of a personal vehicle may be required.

Working Environment/Physical Requirements
Work is performed in an outdoor setting with a variety of weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold. Works in live traffic. Works with live electricity. Occasional lifting of 75 pounds and in excess of 75 pounds with assistance. Periods of bending, stooping, climbing, and reaching. Work up to a height of 30 feet from vehicle lift. Work involves availability for after-hour emergencies as scheduled. Some overnight or day travel may be required for business purposes. Vacation and other leave scheduling shall be requested of and approved by the appropriate supervisor.

Education
High school diploma or equivalent required. One to three years prior experience preferred. Must be work zone safety certified within one year.
