POSITION TITLE: Food Service Cook (Part-Time)

SALARY: $15.92 hr

Job Summary/Scope
Prepares meals served in the cafeteria. Plans menus and orders supplies. Directly supervises volunteers who assist in meal preparation, service and clean-up. No budgetary responsibilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Cooks and prepares lunch for Center cafeteria patrons.
  • Plans menus to ensure well-balanced meal.
  • Researches and adds new items to the menu rotation.
  • Recommends best purchases to supervisor and orders supplies.
  • Supervises volunteers assisting in the cafeteria.
  • Prepares cold sides and desserts in the absence of the cook's assistant, in addition to regular duties.
  • Cleans gas stove, warming cabinet, refrigerators, storage racks, counters, & cabinets.
  • Follows Health Department regulations on sanitary procedures.
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Required (Essential) Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Experience in the operation of a commercial gas stove/oven, convection oven, meat slicer, commercial dishwasher, commercial mixer, warming cabinet, and steam table.
  • Knowledge and Skills in cooking and preparing food and proper sanitation procedures.
  • Knowledge of basic nutritional value of various foods and ability to plan and prepare well-balanced meals.
  • Knowledge of Health Department regulations and sanitary procedures.
  • Ability to direct the activities of cafeteria volunteer workers.
  • Ability to communicate well with center patrons and volunteers.
  • Two years' experience in related field required.

Material and Equipment Directly Used
Uses equipment such as a commercial dishwasher, commercial mixer, gas oven, convection oven, steam table, meat slicer, along with other related kitchen appliances.
Working Environment/Physical Requirements
Work is performed in an indoor setting with a controlled environment. Frequently required to lift up to thirty pounds. Long periods of standing.
Education
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
