The American Angus Association is seeking a detail-oriented and organized Payroll and Payables Coordinator, in its St. Joseph, Mo., office, to add to our Finance team. In this role, you will be responsible for processing payroll accurately and on time, managing accounts payable, and maintaining precise financial records. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, excellent time management, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Process bi-weekly payroll for all employees (multi-entity/multi-jurisdiction), ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations.
  • Maintain accurate payroll records, including timekeeping, deductions, and benefits adjustments.
  • Handle employee questions regarding any payroll inquiries and effectively resolve all issues in a confidential and timely manner.
  • Ensures the accuracy of all benefits enrollments in the HRIS to provide vendors with accurate eligibility information.
  • Assist with Benefits Administration, including reconciling monthly billing statements and ensuring the accuracy of the annual enrollment process.
  • Maintain a high standard of confidentiality regarding employee records and all other information.
  • Assist the Director of Finance in completion of the annual 401k audit.
  • Manage accounts payable by verifying, reconciling, and processing invoices for payment, ensuring all payments are processed in accordance with the vendor terms of payment.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes, including audits and reconciliations
  • Stay updated on payroll laws, regulations, and best practices
  • All other responsibilities as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel.
  • Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the organization’s HRIS and accounting systems.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Must be reliable and dependable.
  • A positive attitude and a willingness to learn is a must.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Associate’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Bachelor’s preferred) and/or must have at least two years of work experience in payroll processing and accounts payable.
  • Proficiency in payroll software (e.g., ADP) and accounting systems (e.g., Sage Intacct), is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of payroll regulations, tax laws, and compliance, is preferred.
