Staff Accountant
American Angus Association
The American Angus Association is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Staff Accountant in its St. Joseph, MO office. The Staff Accountant position is responsible for maintaining financial reports, records, and general ledgers as well as performing general bookkeeping for multiple companies. This position is crucial to ensuring the accuracy of our financial records and supporting the overall financial health of our organization. The successful candidate plays a key role in month-end and year-end financial processes, assisting with auditor requests and analyzing key metrics for the organization. The position reports to the Director of Finance. The Association is located in Saint Joseph, MO, a short drive north of the greater Kansas City area.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Reconcile various general ledger accounts on a monthly basis to ensure the accuracy of financial data.
• Perform month-end closing activities, including the preparation and posting of journal entries, ensuring all financial information is accurate and complete.
• Prepare and review monthly balance sheets and bank reconciliations, identifying discrepancies and making necessary adjustments.
• Perform reconciliation for fixed assets and related depreciation.
• Manage inventory accounting for Angus Brand and Angus Supply stores, including tracking inventory movements, performing reconciliations, and ensuring accurate valuation.
• Support internal and external audit processes by preparing schedules, reconciling accounts, and providing necessary documentation.
• Assist with year-end closing tasks, including preparing financial reports, reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
• Participate in special projects as assigned, contributing to the overall success of the finance department.
• Provide back up to Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable activities.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

• Proficient computer skills in Word and Excel.
• Ability to read and understand technical forms and financial reports.
• Understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
• Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, meeting regular deadlines.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
• Must be reliable and dependable with a positive attitude and a willingness to learn.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance, or equivalent work experience required.
• Two or more years’ experience in accounting or related field preferred.
• Experience in accounting software (e.g., Sage Intacct, ADP), a plus.
