ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
Altec is seeking a Commodity Manager focused on market pricing, commodity intelligence, and strategic analysis. This role serves as a key resource for understanding commodity trends, forecasting cost impacts, and supporting sourcing decisions across multiple categories.
While market pricing and commodity intelligence are the primary focus of this position, the Commodity Manager may also support specific commodity categories or other sourcing priorities. Category assignments and areas of responsibility may be adjusted over time based on business needs, organizational structure, workload, and staffing.
The successful candidate will partner closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations, Materials, and Quality teams across the organization to support both current production and future business growth.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
As the Commodity Manager for Market Pricing & Commodity Intelligence, you will:
- Monitor commodity markets, pricing indices, economic indicators, capacity, lead times, and supply-demand trends across multiple categories.
- Develop cost models, forecasts, dashboards, and scenario analyses to support sourcing and business decisions.
- Translate market data into actionable recommendations for Procurement, Finance, Manufacturing, Engineering, and leadership teams.
- Analyze commodity exposure, inflationary and deflationary drivers, and supply chain risks; identify mitigation opportunities.
- Establish consistent data sources, methodologies, and reporting standards for commodity intelligence.
- Track supplier and market cost drivers and evaluate the reasonableness of pricing changes.
- Support commodity managers with negotiation preparation, sourcing strategies, timing decisions, and long-range planning.
- Deliver recurring and ad hoc reports that clearly communicate trends, risks, opportunities, and expected financial impact.
- Maintain awareness of regulatory, geopolitical, logistics, energy, and technology developments that may affect commodity markets.
- Coach and support purchasing and materials team members in the use of market intelligence, cost modeling, and forecasting tools.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree.
- Six years of applicable experience in procurement, supply chain, finance, economics, business analytics, manufacturing, engineering, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience analyzing market, pricing, cost, or supply chain data.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to translate complex data into clear, actionable business recommendations.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including advanced Excel capabilities.
Should the selected candidate meet the qualifications of a more experienced level within the career path, the job level may be adjusted.
Preferred Experience
We are particularly interested in candidates who bring technical expertise and operational knowledge to the role, including:
- Experience with commodity pricing, market analytics, cost modeling, or forecasting.
- Knowledge of economics, finance, procurement analytics, strategic sourcing, and manufacturing cost structures.
- Experience using market indices, economic indicators, dashboards, or business-intelligence tools.
- Experience identifying cost drivers, quantifying risk, and evaluating supplier pricing changes.
- Experience in a manufacturing or engineered-products environment.
- Experience translating complex market and financial data into clear recommendations for cross-functional and leadership audiences.
- MBA, APICS certification, or equivalent professional certification.
