Responsibilities

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

Responsible for the planning, development and implementation of policies adhering to all applicable environmental, health and safety regulations for the Mount Airy Operations with oversight from their manager.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervising within a department may include some technical responsibilities consistent with technical career paths

  • Assesses and coaches associates on their performance and professional development

  • Sets and manages the objectives for the associates and the department in support of Altec goals

  • Participate in development and support of Altec Initiatives

  • Develops and implements strategies for the department

  • Ensures processes and procedures are implemented and adhered to

  • Coordinates resource and manpower management

  • Fully responsible for

    • satisfying internal/external customers

    • actively support internal/external suppliers and processes.

  • Operates with some decision-making latitude within or for the Department

  • Develops leadership and management skills necessary to grow and develop a team

  • Communicates effectively across areas of influence

EH&S RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensures compliance with all environmental, health and safety regulations, and keeps abreast of any changes to laws and regulations that impact the organization.

  • Leads environmental, health, and safety team regarding projects, tasks, and operations including, but not limited to, data analysis, training, risk identification and mitigation.

  • Acts as emergency coordinator with first response teams and regulatory agencies.

  • Manages incident investigation process to determine the root cause, circumstances and contributing factors for corrective action.

  • Determines safety and environmental training requirements and provides associates with training applicable to their work processes.

Basic Qualifications

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • ABET EAC certified Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or a Masters of Science in Engineering from college offering ABET EAC-certified BS degrees, or active PE license in the United States.

    • External Candidates - Minimum of four (4) years' experience in an engineering role after meeting the above education requirements.

      • Applicable Masters counts as one year of experience.

OR

  • 4-year Bachelor’s Degree required, technical field preferred

    • Minimum of six (6) years’ experience, four (4) of which must be after earning the Degree.

  • Experience with direct reports strongly preferred

    • Position can be upgraded to Manager, with 3+ years of leadership experience

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Must be able to work with team members and work with minimal supervision

  • Must be willing to travel up to 25% of the time, potentially on short notice, which may include flying

FINANCIAL BUDGETING, CAPITAL, AND/OR MANPOWER RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • With limited oversight from his/her Manager, directly supervises two or more associates within the Department he/she works or with direct oversight from his/her Manager, directly manages an entire department.

    • Conducts performance reviews

    • Conducts Compensation review and recommendations

    • If responsible for entire department:

    • May manage supervisors within the Department he/she works

    • Assists in the development and ongoing management of budgets
